SWMRS

Max and Cole Becker met Joey Armstrong as young kids when their father, an architect, built the Armstrongs’ house. Joey had been playing drums since the age of four. After watching “School of Rock”, Cole and Joey were inspired to start a band in 2004. Cole took up guitar and recruited Max to play bass with them. They started as “The Raining Souls”. In 2006, they decided to change their name to “The Clocks”, but discovered several other bands had the same name. Then, the idea came to them to name the band Emily’s Army in honor of Max and Cole’s cousin, Emily. Emily suffers from a deadly disease called Cystic Fibrosis, and Emily’s Army is the name of the family based group that works to find a cure.

On September 15, 2014, the band announced that they were changing their name from Emily’s Army to Swimmers. This new name was to reflect their new “beach pop” style. Since they started the band when they were young, there was a lot of stuff online reflecting their younger selves. With a new name, they were allowed to start fresh. The name transition took a few months, but was officially completed in March 2015, after completing their fall 2014 tour with Rise Against, and February 2015 appearance at the Soundwaves Festival in Australia.

On January 24, 2015, Swimmers announced the release of their first songs under the new name — an EP called “Palm Trees/Silver Bullet”, to be released on Burger Records on March 30, 2015. However, five days prior to its release, they announced the postponement of the EP due to “some complications”. It has not been released since, although a studio recording of “Silver Bullet” was released on Burger Records’ Soundcloud page.

The Frights

The Frights’ birth in December 2012, was an accident that now unites moms worldwide. One mom in San Diego has called the band, “Great! A fun mix of the rock n’ roll I used to love with the 50’s sounds MY mom used to love!” Another mom in Los Angeles praises the band, saying, “I hire a babysitter to go to all their shows. They just have so much youthful energy, they make me feel young too!”

Moms everywhere enjoy the band’s two self-produced EPs, their one full-length record, and even their split EP and singles, embarrassing their sons and daughters with their enthusiasm toward a band that is at least half, sometimes a third, of their age. Some of their most popular songs among moms include “Beach Porn,” “Crust Bucket,” and “Makeout Point.”

Ostensibly, The Frights are great for long drives in a Honda Odyssey. Their second full-length was produced by FIDLAR’s Zac Carper and will be released soon.
