As Bebop and Cool Jazz became increasingly erudite and sophisticated, a new generation of black jazz artists emerged in the 1950s who sought to reconnect jazz with its roots in Blues and Gospel Music. For its season finale, TCJO will celebrate the resulting Hard Bop jazz tradition with performances of music by artists such as Horace Silver, Art Blakey, Charles Mingus and Sonny Rollins.
