Tourette's 101

Tourette's Syndrome is estimated to affect 1 in 100 children in the United States. This common and complex condition is relatively unknown to many in the fields of education and therapy which leads to misdiagnosis and ineffective interventions for children. This workshop is designed to give educators, practitioners and families: 



  • An overview of Tourette's from a medical perspective. What it is and what it is not. 

  • Ways to identify children with Tourette's in the classroom.

  • Ways to build effective and appropriate strategies to support Tourett'es children in the classroom and at home. 

  • How to build systematic solutions and support within a school or school district. 

  • Information on how to be an effective advocate for children with Tourette's. 

    Speakers include:


  • Brian Lane, Tourette's Association of America Education Advisory Board Member.

  • Kelly O'Berry, Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Therapist. Former Social Worker in DSM District.

  • Dr David Demarest, DSM-based Neuropsychologist.


  • One Iowa License Renewal Credit accepted by the BoEE AND certificates for mental health provides who need that certificate for licensing from the Department of Health.

    Additional presenters and schedule TBA and subject to change.

    LUNCH AND BEVERAGES WILL BE PROVIDED FOR PARTICIPANTS.
