Famed Chicago bluesman Studebaker John Grimaldi started playing harmonica at the age of 7 and took up the slide guitar later in life after a self-described life changing experience seeing Hound Dog Taylor and the House Rockers perform. Under the spell of music he heard on Maxwell Street, Chicago’s famed blues melting pot, Grimaldi began performing as Studebaker John and the Hawks, an homage to his Studebaker Hawk car (which he still owns today), in the 1970’s. He released his first album, Straight No Chaser, in 1979 and has since produced another 19 albums of original material over the past 45 years. His latest effort, The Resonator, was released in 2022 to much acclaim from critics and fans alike.
In addition to his own recordings, Studebaker John has made numerous appearances as a sideman with a wide variety of other musicians, including British rock bands Pretty Things and The Yardbirds.
His original music has been featured in numerous movies, television shows, and commercials, including Fox’s hit show 24, A&E’s Dog the Bounty Hunter and Cinemax’s Banshee.
As a songwriter and musician, Studebaker John has emerged as a major creative force in the world of the blues today. Ahead of the pack, with vision and foresight, creating a new standard and landscape for this music’s future… with John at the wheel, the future is now!
