The Body Is Speaking to Us

Our bodies are wild, animal machines, brilliantly designed to navigate this strange, scary, beautiful world. Unfortunately, we live in a culture that wants to domestic the body – especially the female body. We’re taught to bind it, starve it, hide it, improve it, diminish it, tame it, silence it.

Our bodies are constantly bombarded by our efforts to make it into what it “should” be, into what is “acceptable” to our culture. Over the years, this taming becomes trauma. It can manifest as chronic discomfort or pain, anxiety, or a host of other issues – even a difficulty in expressing boundaries to others.

Thankfully, the body is always speaking to us. It knows nothing better than its own wildness. And it longs for nothing else.

It’s not easy to counteract a lifetime of taming. It takes lots of small acts of liberation over the course of years. But this photographic meditative experience is a beautiful, compassionate way to take a deeper dive into the journey of “re-wilding” the body.

The Process

During this outdoor session, we’ll work through a series of questions that will ask you to focus on the feelings in your body and the messages you are receiving from it and the wild world around you.

After each meditation, your feedback will guide the photos I take and how I take them. You choose the gaze of the lens. You choose what you want it to see. (You can do this session clothed, semi-clothed, or nude.) You are in control.

The Outcome

After this session, you will feel more connected to your body and will have more clues that will direct you toward remembering your wild self, which will assist you as you continue on your journey.

This session will also serve as a beautiful tribute – perhaps even a rite of passage – as you further commit to reconnecting with and rewilding your body. You will receive five edited digital photos from the session, that best highlight the experience.
