Create a journaling practice that feels authentic to you.
What if journaling wasn't something you should do, but something you actually looked forward to? What if you looked back through your journal and appreciated everything in it, instead of feeling all the cringe?
Journaling can be a place to clear your mind, notice your thoughts, process emotions, capture ideas, practice gratitude, dream, reflect, or simply spend a few quiet minutes with yourself. And the ritual surrounding it can be just as important as the words on the page.
In this hands-on workshop, we'll explore the many ways journaling can become a meaningful personal ritual. We'll talk about how when, where, and how you journal can change the experience, and you'll have the opportunity to experiment with different approaches to discover what feels natural for you.
We'll explore:
Your Journaling Environment
Why does the space around you matter? We'll explore how light, sound, scent, comfort, and the objects we surround ourselves with can help signal to our brains that it's time to slow down and turn inward.
The Tools
A journal doesn't have to be expensive or fancy. We'll explore different papers, notebooks, pens, pencils, and writing styles and talk about how the physical experience of writing can influence your desire to keep showing up.
Dot Journaling
Discover how dots, symbols, lists, trackers, collections, and simple layouts can turn a journal into both a creative outlet and a practical tool for organizing your thoughts and your life.
Morning or Night?
Explore the different energy of journaling at the beginning versus the end of the day. Morning journaling can help clear mental clutter and set an intention, while evening journaling can create space for reflection, release, and gratitude.
Morning Pages
We'll introduce the practice of writing freely and continuously without worrying about grammar, structure, or whether what you're writing makes sense. Sometimes getting everything out of your head is exactly what you need.
The Gratitude Practice
Gratitude journaling doesn't have to mean making the same three-item list every day. We'll explore creative ways to notice, capture, and deepen our awareness of the good things already present in our lives.
Prompts vs. No Prompts
Sometimes you need a question to get you started. Sometimes the most important thing is simply putting pen to paper and seeing what comes out. We'll experiment with both.
And most importantly...
You'll have time to actually journal.
This isn't a workshop where you sit and listen to someone talk about journaling. You'll experiment with different techniques, tools, environments, and prompts so you can begin creating a journaling ritual that feels personal and sustainable.
You'll leave with ideas, inspiration, prompts, and a better understanding of what kind of journaling practice works for you.
Bring your favorite journal if you have one. Or come ready to discover what might become your new favorite.
There is no right way to journal.
There is only the way that helps you hear yourself.
