Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is an all Iowa music festival featuring musical artists from Greater Des Moines and across Iowa. Coordinated by the Des Moines Music Coalition and a team of volunteers, the goals of GDP are to organize an event that best supports Iowa musicians and their needs for growth in the music industry.

For 2017, our main objectives are (1) to boost exposure and build the audience for smaller, up-and-coming Iowa acts, (2) to bring more acts from outside Des Moines to expose local artists to new ideas, and (3) to continue supporting the genre diversity represented in the 2016 festival. As in the past, GDP continues to support primarily young and new artists who are taking their first steps into creative self-expression through music and doing so in a positive, collaborative way.

4th Street Theatre (216 4th Street, DSM)
Included with $10 All-Access Festival Pass or $5 for the Workshop only

Letting your year plan you instead of you planning your year? You don't have to be a struggling artist! This MU Workshop is designed to help independent musicians redefine the "why" of their music endeavors and gain insight on making a music career sustainable in the Midwest.

Workshop participants will gain new skills in:

  • Goal setting

  • Organizational structure

  • Importance of branding

  • Understanding of a basic Profit & Loss

  • Forecasting

  • Financial planning

As Executive Director of Camp Euforia music festival, full-time Realtor, co-owner of Dogpatch Urban Gardens, and operator of a small real estate investment business, MU Workshop 2017's featured speaker Eric Quiner (formerly of Eufórquestra) knows a thing or two about running a successful business. Throughout these numerous business endeavors, one theme remains consistent: they all started with a plan. If you are an independent musician or trying to take your band to the next level, this workshop is for you. Topics will include making more out of what you already do, expanding your reach as an artist, creating a marketing plan, developing an overall better quality of life as a working musician, and turning it up to eleven!
