Tuel Prairie and Judson Prairie

Bayard, Iowa
Tuel prairie is a 12-acre dry-mesic remnant prairie. Adjacent is 25 acres of prairie reconstructions completed with seed from the remnant. Interesting plant species include prairie turnip, scurfy pea, false gromwell, red root, New Jersey tea, and porcupine grass. After the tour of Tuel prairie participants will load into vehicles and travel approximately 8 miles to Judson prairie. This dry to dry-mesic remnant is underlain with Monteith sandy loam soil.
Field trips may be subject to adverse weather. Field trip leaders will contact attendees if severe weather is an issue.
