Event Description

Region 2C
Stinson Prairie State Preserve
1:30 PM - 3:30 PM
Algona, Iowa

Join Iowa Prairie Network region 2 board member, Sarah Nizzi and Kossuth County Conservation Board Naturalist, Billie E. Wille for a guided hike through a beautiful remnant prairie in Northern Iowa. The land was once used as a hayfield from 1881 until it was purchased by Kossuth CCB in 1969. The remnant was then recognized as a state preserve in 1971. Participants will be guided through the remnant for one hour and then everyone will have the opportunity to leisurely explore the prairie on their own for as long as they like.

The terrain of the land is relatively flat in most places, with some rolling hills. There could be areas that are more wet than others. The soils vary greatly within this remnant.

This prairie has been known to support over 200 native plant species. Please bring your own water bottle, boots, hat, sunscreen, bug spray, camera and snacks.

Field trips may be subject to adverse weather. Field trip leaders will contact attendees if severe weather is an issue.
