2023 National Balloon Classic

100+ hot air balloons suspended over the horizon. 100+ baskets filled with skilled pilots from around the world, 100+ roaring burners creating a whoosh that is both heard and felt. Imagine Indianola, Iowa, where the best pilots from around the world wander into town every summer and take over the sky: heart-racing competition, stunning sites, gorgeous Glows, incredible entertainment, and so much more. No matter the thrill you seek, it’s waiting for you at the National Balloon Classic. We are OVER THE TOP and ready to take flight with you!

Children ages five and under are admitted free of charge

A General Admission ticket allows you to enjoy viewing 100+ hot air balloons, live music on the TruBank stage, Nite Glows, fireworks, kite shows, fabulous food and beverage vendors, and so much more! Incredible, family-friendly entertainment.

General Admission tickets are good for ANY ONE (1) EVENING SESSION during the National Balloon Classic, July 28 – August 5, 2023.

• All balloon activity is wind and weather permitting. Admission to the National Balloon Classic does not guarantee a balloon launch. Tickets are not refundable.


• Children ages five and under are admitted free of charge.


• Gates open at 4:00 p.m. daily

• Tickets may be printed at home or scanned on a mobile device at the gate.


• Tickets do not sell out and can be purchased any time through August 5, 2023.


• Tickets purchased prior to July 20, 2023, can be sent via First Class Mail for an additional $2.00 fee.

The ticket holder assumes all risks and dangers incidental to attending and participating in this event. By accepting admission with this ticket, you agree to release the National Balloon Classic, its employees, sponsors, agents, pilots, and crews from any and all responsibilities and liabilities arising from, or which are in any matter whatsoever directly or indirectly related to any loss, injury, cause of action or damage which you may incur as a result of attending this event. We may refuse admission or expel any person whose conduct is objectionable. Ticket holders are required to comply with all safety rules, posted signs, and instructions of event personnel. Tickets may not be resold. Tickets not obtained from the National Balloon Classic ticketing site or an authorized outlet will not be honored.  No coolers, bottles, cans, or food permitted. No pets, bicycles, skateboards, or drones. No smoking, vaping, or weapons.

The National Balloon Classic is an outdoor event: no refunds, rain checks, or exchanges. If hot air balloons are unable to fly due to wind conditions, live music, and other scheduled entertainment, (weather permitting) will still go on. All events at the National Balloon Classic
are dependent on prevailing weather conditions and subject to weather delays or cancellations. Times are approximate, and the schedule may change without notice. The safety of our pilots, volunteers, and spectators is our primary concern. Unused tickets are not refundable.

By purchasing a ticket, you help preserve the 52-year history of hot air ballooning in Indianola and support state and local economies. The National Balloon Classic is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to bring a nationally recognized and celebrated family-friendly event to Iowa that promotes community engagement, tourism, and the sport of hot air ballooning.
