GEORGE WINSTON's piano music came to prominence in the 1980's with now-classic recordings on the Wyndham Hill label, such as AUTUMN, DECEMBER, and WINTER INTO SPRING. Growing up in Montana, he refers to his style as "rural folk piano." Influenced as well by his time in Florida and Mississippi, Mr. Winston incorporates R&B, rock, stride and jazz styles into his music. Other albums include LINUS & LUCY-THE MUSIC OF VINCE GUARALDI (1996), PLAINS (1999), which was inspired by his Eastern Montana upbringing, NIGHT DIVIDES THE DAY - THE MUSIC OF THE DOORS (2002), MONTANA - A LOVE STORY (2004) and GULF COAST BLUES & IMPRESSIONS – A HURRICANE RELIEF BENEFIT (2006).
The proceeds from tonight's concert and merchandise will go to help two organizations, TheARTS@First Inclusive Arts Ministries at First Christian Church in the Drake Neighborhood, and to non-profit radio KFMG FM99.1, "Your Community Voice." We are grateful to Mr. Winston for his kindness in doing this benefit concert. He requests that you BRING CANNED FOOD for the DMARC FOOD PANTRY collection at the door.
